Moving Seats Made Easy
Knowles 2024 Teaching Fellow, Josh Pullen, has developed a website that helps teachers create new seating charts. Regularly moving students’ seats has many benefits, including breaking down social barriers, gathering contributions from all students, and building strong classroom culture. But moving seats also means more work on teachers to develop or review a new seating chart.
Shuffle Buddy helps teachers instantly shuffle seats while still taking into account students’ needs and accommodations. Teachers can add in rules based on their students’ IEPs, which students might need to be kept apart, and more.
Josh started developing Shuffle Buddy to assist with his own classroom and seating management. He shared a prototype with other teachers at the Knowles Spring meetings, gathering useful feedback and making improvements to the website. Shuffle Buddy has been through a few updates since then, and Josh continues to make tweaks as more teachers use the website.
