If I don’t have a good reason for why what I am teaching is important and applicable to my student’s lives, they won’t see the point of engaging.”

Kelsey’s Story

Teaching Disciplines

Chemistry and Biology

Why Chemistry and Biology

“I studied biology in college because I thought I wanted to go into medicine. When I decided to become a teacher, I was qualified to teach biology, but I also loved my chemistry classes in high school and wanted to recreate those experiences for my students. When the opportunity arose for me to teach both, I happily accepted!”

Professional Experience

While studying at Oregon State University, Kelsey worked as a teaching assistant for a microbiology lab for one year. Additionally, she spent a summer working as an AmeriCorps VISTA member at Centennial High School, where she planned field trips, monitored the credit recovery progress, and assisted students with developing math and writing skills. Kelsey is passionate about swimming and has more than seven years of teaching experience. She also works as a swim coach for the Dolphins Portland Swim Team.

Kelsey will return for her second year of teaching at Oregon City High School during the 2021–2022 school year.

Year round, Kelsey enjoys spending time with her cat Bernadette. In the summer, she enjoys floating on the Clackamas River.
